    munitions carrier Carl was designed to supply a giant siege howitzers Charlemagne heavy shells (1.96 tons each) that required a special machine. As a basis for it was used Panzer Corps PzKpfw-4 Ausf-D, with a platform for transportation of ammunition and a crane. Transporter normally delivered by train to a destination and going right on the spot. In 1941, 13 chassis PzKpfw-4 Ausf-F were converted into Ammunition. Howitzers and ammunition belts Karl intended to participate in the assault of heavy fortifications. They are rarely used in the Second World War, but were involved in the siege of Sevastopol during the Battle of Warsaw in 1944.
